For several years, Ukraine has been consistently among the top 5 countries supplying organic products to the European Union. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky during the annual conference "Organic Day in Ukraine".
The event was held in Kyiv for the fourth time and brought together over 230 participants in a mixed format. The organizer was the public association "Organic Initiative" with the support of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, as well as partners from Switzerland and Germany.
According to the Ministry of Economy, today there are 260 operators in Ukraine certified under national legislation, and 436 operators meet EU and/or US standards. The area of organic agricultural land is about 350 thousand hectares, which is approximately 1.2% of the total area of agricultural land in the country.
Taras Vysotsky noted that Ukraine has set an ambitious goal - first to bring the share of organic land to 5%, and then to 25%, as in the EU countries. This will significantly strengthen Ukraine's position in the global organic market and expand export opportunities.
Active work is also underway to bring Ukrainian legislation into line with the new EU regulation. Draft Law No. 13204-1 is currently being prepared for the second reading and has a high chance of being adopted this fall.
The Ministry notes that the organic sector demonstrates one of the best indicators of adaptation to European standards in the agricultural sector and continues to grow, despite current economic and geopolitical challenges. This confirms the strategic importance of Ukraine as a reliable supplier of organic products on the international market.
